Twitter testing mute feature

Twitter has rolled out a new feature that allows users to "mute" other users without the need to unfollow them, however the feature is simply being tested among a small number of users at the moment, and it's not without its drawbacks.

The ability to hide tweets from certain users is something that's been available for quite some time now within third party Twitter clients like Tweetdeck and Tweetbot, but it finally looks as though Twitter has identified it as something that it should be implementing of its own accord.

Many users have been reporting the presence of the feature on their accounts, but it still hasn't been rolled out to everyone, and there are still some issues with it, the main one being the fact that once you've muted a user, you can't actually unmute them at the moment - something that's obviously going to be quite important moving forward.

This marks the latest in a line of recent changes from the social media platform in a bid to increase user engagement, and follows the roll out of the brand new account layout. There hasn't been any confirmation from Twitter yet about an official full-scale roll out of the feature.
