Keyboards might not be the most interesting things in the world, but that's all set to change if Apple's latest patents are anything to go by. It's being reported that the Cupertino-based company has got big plans for the humble keyboard, including miniature displays within keys, touch sensors and even haptic feedback set to revolutionize the way we interact with our computers in the future.
Although there's no indication as to how far along any plans for this technology may be, the fact that Apple has enough believe in it to patent it for its MacBook keyboards is certainly promising. We've already seen keyboards released in the last few years that feature small displays on keys, but their prices can be incredibly restrictive, reserving them almost exclusively for high-tech professionals or the most dedicated of technophiles.
It's worth noting, before you get too excited, that companies patent things all the time, and it's no sure fire indication that the technology is currently in development or will be seen any time soon, however given Apple's tendency to completely revolutionize entire markets, we wouldn't rule this patent out from appearing in the next few years (once the cost drops sufficiently, of course).
