Twitter is reflecting on the year gone by, 140 characters at a time. The social media platform has put together a short and snappy video that highlights some of the memorable moments of the past year along with some fascinating insights and statistics.

This year saw the birth of one royal baby, which was a focal point of the platform, along with more than 75,000 tweets of #itsaboy and more than 24,000 mentions of #itsagirl. Bostonians will be pleased to see that the Red Sox are in the spotlight for their World Series win. And you can learn a little too thanks to the inclusion of the stat that there are only 10,000 red pandas left in the wild.

And of course, Twitter's own six-second video platform, Vine, is showcased. This is thanks mainly to the stat that 40 million people "discovered a brand new way to share life in 6 seconds." 500 million tweets are sent every day. How many belong to you?
