Tweet straight to your Amazon shopping cart

Amazon has unveiled a new feature that turns Twitter into an interactive shopping list.

If someone tweets a link to an Amazon product, simply reply with #AmazonCart and the product in question will magically appear in your Amazon shopping cart.

Amazon describes it as "an exciting new way to add Amazon products to your cart, without leaving Twitter" but it is clearly also wary that the new feature could lead to some accidental or overly impulsive purchases.

And of course there's the small matter that the average seven-year-old child can hack a smartphone passcode in a matter of seconds.

Therefore, the system isn't fully automated. Amazon will send a confirmation email or tweet and then there's still the matter of logging into Amazon to complete the purchase.

The service is now live in the U.S. and the U.K. (where users need to use #AmazonBasket instead of #AmazonCart); all consumers need to do to start using it is to link their Twitter and Amazon accounts.
