During Samsung's press conference on Monday at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics show, director Michael Bay had a wee bit of a meltdown.
The Transformers director was appearing in a segment surrounding the company's new ultra-high definition TVs. As part of scripted banter with Samsung executive Joe Stinziano, he is asked about "how do you come up with these unbelievable ideas?"
"I create visual worlds that are so beyond everyone's life experiences. And Hollywood is a place that creates... a viewer.. escape," Bay responded. "And what I try to do is, I, as a director, I try to..."
And he lost his train of thought. He claims there's a problem with the teleprompter and that's he's going to "wing it." But, apparently, was unable to, as he left the stage after being asked another question by Stinziano.
He later wrote on his website:
"Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES – I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP’s intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down – then I walked off. I guess live shows aren’t my thing."
