Where do the trendy people in Edmonton like to hang out? Hard to tell when you’re an out-of-towner who’d like to chill with the cool crowd for just one night. That is, unless you use a web service such as Seety Now, which aims to answer that question.

SEETY NOW

A free web service (and a soon-to-be mobile app) suggesting hip joints, trendy restaurants and cool clubs, for the cities of Edmonton, Winnipeg and Montreal. More cities will be added as curators are found across the continent.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Frequent travellers landing in a new city know how hotel concierges and generic apps such as Yelp don’t always know where it’s happening. Seety Now does, or so it says. For a bite, a drink, a dance or a show on short notice.

DOES IT WORK?

Somewhat. The service mixes recommendations coming from people on-site with promotional packages it sells to club and bar owners, so they can get exposure and, eventually, offer deals via e-mail directly to the service’s registered users.

WHAT’S MISSING?

Native applications for Android and iOS are expected later this summer and will make Seety Now easier to use. And since this is an emerging service, more cities and venues are added regularly, making it a better tool for the socialite.

VERDICT

Another one of those online recommendations services? Yep. This one tries to find a niche with the cool cats, however, which should please a specific crowd. And it’s free, so it’s worth a try.
