Apple has made a series of improvements to its Podcasts app for iPhones and iPads, including the addition of CarPlay support and Siri voice commands. At the same time, the company has improved the process for managing podcasts in iTunes.

The 2.1 version of the Podcasts app delivers a number of changes to the browsing function. A new Unplayed tab lets users see all the new episodes ready for listening at a glance, while the new Feed tab shows episodes that have recently become available to download or stream.

With the integration of Siri, Apple's smart assistant, it is now possible to control the app using voice commands, meaning that users can call up their favorite podcasts by name. The app is also compatible with CarPlay, Apple's new simplified mobile platform for in-car use. Finally, it has also become possible to copy podcasts from one iOS device to another using AirDrop.

These changes are echoed in the latest iTunes update (11.2) which improves syncing with mobile terminals and also offers the same categorization system as the app, with new Feed and Unplayed tabs.

Podcasts is available for download at the App Store.
