The OnePlus One smartphone, labelled as a 2014 flagship killer by the fledgling company, has seen its release date moved forward by a couple of weeks from mid-June to late May, in a move that will delight the thousands of smartphone enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get one of the devices in their hands as soon as possible.

Although OnePlus are a relative unknown in the smartphone world, the industry has been sitting up and taking notice of the company's debut handset thanks to a low cost of $299 for the 16GB model and $349 for the 64GB version.

Just as Google did with its Nexus platform, OnePlus has priced its handset to be incredibly appealing to consumers, and the fact that the specs are so good has certainly helped to raise some eyebrows.

The One will feature a 5.5 inch 1080p screen, 3 GB of RAM, a quad-core 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 CPU, 13 MP Sony Exmor sensor capable of recording 4K video, 5MP front facing camera for all manner of high resolution selfie goodness and a massive 3,100 mAh battery. The device won't, however, feature the option to add storage through a microSD card, which is a shame, but hard to argue about at the price.

Due to the high demand for the 64 GB model, OnePlus has been working frantically behind the scenes to ramp up production, and their efforts mean that consumers can get their hands on the device a couple of weeks earlier, all going well.
