Fed up of wiping the smudge and fingerprint marks from your smartphone and tablet every five minutes? Join the club, but it looks as though this could become a thing of the past in the very near future, as Microsoft claims that it's making great progress on new touchless technology that will allow used to interact with their smart devices without actually needing to touch them.

The Redmond-based company has a number of prototypes in the works at the moment, including an electronic bracelet that will track users' finger movements and then communicate the inputs to a smart device wirelessly, and several floating technology ideas that include using motion tracking cameras as well as display technology that will allow images to appear to extend out from the screen, allowing users to interface with them simply by manipulating the space occupied by the floating images.

While a lot of this may sound quite far-fetched, Microsoft maintains that final versions of the prototypes could start hitting stores in the next two to five years, which begs the question: what on earth will we be using as interfaces in twenty years!?
