U2 has announced that its upcoming single, Invisible, will be available for free on iTunes during the Super Bowl in an effort to raise money to fight AIDS.

The song will debut during this a commercial before being made available on iTunes for free for 24 hours (Feb. 2-3). Bank of America is to donate $1 for each download of the song (up to $2 million) to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. U2's frontman Bono said that Bank of America's commitment, donations were sent in from the Gates Foundation, SAP and Africa's Motsepe Family.

U2 is reportedly planning to announce a new album, which should be released sometime this spring. Fans of the Irish rock group have gotten a taste of the band's current sound and direction thanks to the inclusion of Ordinary Love in the biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. The song went on to win the Golden Globe for Best Original song and has picked up an Oscar nomination.

It's likely that this offer only applies if you're in North America, but if you're a U2 fan, or just like to get free music, it will be worth your while keeping an eye on iTunes on Feb. 2. Surely you'll be able to find a break in play during the Super Bowl to take a quick peek at iTunes.
