Samsung responded to a recent YouTube video showing a burnt Galaxy S4 phone by telling the owner that they would replace his phone, but only if he pulled the original video from YouTube and didn't bring up the ordeal again.
YouTube user GhostlyRich posted a video in early December showing a burnt charging plug and describing how he woke one night to the smell of burning electronics when he left his phone charging as he slept. Samsung was none-too-keen on this video it seems, which is understandable, and contacted him to ask him to take the video down. GhostlyRich understood that part of the letter he received, but some other elements didn't sit well with him as he outlines in his follow-up video.
While the original video may have resulted in bad publicity for the company, the follow-up letter is doing even more damage. For comparison, the original video has 80,000 views at the time of writing, while the follow-up video, which was uploaded three days later, has over 383,000 views. The two videos from GhostlyRich about his Galaxy S4 ordeal can be watched below. GhostlyRich doesn't seem to have much luck when it comes to consumer electronics; he also had an Xbox 360 that red-ringed.
We have reached out to Samsung for a response.
