There's nothing quite as irritating as heading south of the border either on a day trip or for a longer break, and being completely unable to use your smartphone's data functionality without paying an arm and a leg in data roaming charges. In the last year or so this has been compounded by the fact that LTE users have to take a double hit if they want to utilize their phone in the States; firstly the financial hit, and secondly the fact that only 3G (at best) speeds were covered on roaming.

Well, that's a thing of the past - at least for Rogers subscribers. The company has today announced that its customers will be able to take advantage of a brand new data roaming deal in association with AT&T, which will allow Canadians to avail of LTE data roaming for $7.99 per day, with a cap of 50 MB per day. Okay, so it's not exactly anything to get excited about, but it's a step in the right direction, and $7.99 for 50 MB sure beats the $50+ it'd cost elsewhere for similar bandwidth.

"We are pleased to build on our long-standing relationship with AT&T and continue our history of industry firsts by offering customers access to LTE roaming when travelling in the U.S.," said John Boynton, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Rogers Communications in a statement today.

"The demand for LTE speeds, the fastest wireless technology in the world, continues to explode. With this relationship, our customers can enjoy uninterrupted access to blazing fast wireless speeds whether they are at home on the Rogers LTE network or in the U.S."
