Due for release on May 27, the Watch Dogs launch trailer showcases its range of driving, hacking, and combat components as vigilante Aiden Pearce goes looking for justice.

With review copy still under embargo but a plethora of pre-order options live, the trailer is keen to double down on enthusiastic press quotes gleaned from two year's worth of preview coverage.

While onlookers may be left wondering how close Ubisoft is to realizing the original, lavish Watch Dogs vision as unveiled in 2012, the launch trailer offers a look at the game from several angles.

Indeed, on this evidence, environmental detailing may have been dialed down a notch or two since that extravagant E3 reveal.

But with its opening closer to a driving game ("Driver: San Francisco" house Ubisoft Reflections assisted the lead studio in Montreal), a selection of long shots and panoramas then make for easy association with recent Grand Theft Auto titles.

From thereon, this Watch Dogs trailer makes sure to highlight its distinctiveness: a free-form urban playground in which to weave a tale of morally ambiguous justice, cyber-theft, network hacking and high-octane pursuits.

Watch Dogs releases May 27 worldwide on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PCs, with a Wii U version planned for later this year.
