Reports are suggesting that Ubisoft's Far Cry franchise will return with its fourth standalone instalment next year.
2012's Far Cry 3 was nothing short of a masterpiece - brilliant in almost every way - and then along came Blood Dragon, the standalone downloadable title based on the same engine, which added all kinds of awesome '80s action series themed madness into the mix, so the news that Far Cry 4 is on the way fills us with the kind of excitement typically reserved for small children on Christmas Eve.
Eurogamer has made claims that unnamed sources have disclosed that the fourth instalment in the much-travelled series will take place in the Himalayas, shaking things up from the usual jungle settings. The sources also claim that the game is being prepped for launch in 2015, most likely towards Q4, which is usually reserved for AAA releases.
Unsurprisingly at this early stage there's no information about the gameplay, but it's highly likely that Ubisoft will seek to implement many of the same mechanics that featured in the last iteration, albeit with tweaked execution that will take advantage of the additional power offered by the PS4 and Xbox One.
There may still be a long time to go before we have this confirmed officially, never mind showcased by Ubisoft in any real capacity, but we're still hugely excited by the prospect.
