French video game developer Ubisoft has announced a partnership with Sony Pictures for a new movie centred on the popular crazy white rabbits.

The highly idiotic creatures will be projected into the real world through a live-action film with CG animation -- a process used in the Smurfs movie, also by Sony Pictures.

This journey to the silver screen will continue the Rabbids' conquest: starting out as enemies of video game character Rayman in 2006, they rapidly became a hit among young gamers with their silly DAAAAAGH! noise. This success led to the launch of books, goodies, TV programs and even a 5D ride in French theme park Futuroscope.

Ubisoft is also preparing a franchise expansion of Assassin's Creed with a movie starring Michael Fassbender and distributed by Twentieth Century Fox, while a Splinter Cell project is being developed by New Regency, with Tom Hardy linked to the Sam Fisher part. Coming this spring, Watch Dogs will also hit the big screen, thanks to Sony again.
