What would have happened if George Washington never stepped down, instead continuing on, urged by a megalomaniac drive? That's the question behind The Tyranny of King Washington, a downloadable side-story for Assassin's Creed III.

The storyline is a departure for the series which usually seeks to blend conspiratorial theories with established historical fact.

This time, half-Native American main character Connor is not aiding but opposing Washington in the name of justice and freedom.

Three separate episodes make up the Tyranny storyline: The Infamy, released on Feb. 19, The Betrayal, on March 19, and The Redemption on April 23.

Like the story expansions for Borderlands 2, or the multiplayer add-ons for Black Ops II, Forza Horizon and the like, King George's maddening tale will be delivered free of charge to those that have an Assassin's Creed III Season Pass. Otherwise, it'll come in at around $10 US.
