February 14th's Nintendo Direct afforded viewers a peak at the portable version of Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins, coming to Nintendo 3DS in April.

The game acts as a prequel to March's Wii U-bound Lego City Undercover and takes players through the early days of Chase McCain, Lego City policeman extraordinaire.

His first mission is to fetch donuts for the deputy, but things soon escalate, from rescuing police dogs and tangling with street punks to a Casino Royale-style crane fight and a spot of sky diving.

There's also an opportunity for Chase to put his own Lego skills to the test and construct a helipad before impressing (or being impressed by) the police helicopter's pilot.

The Chase Begins trailer is the first to focus on a 3DS version exclusively but provides some insight at least into the sort of hi-jinks players can expect to get up to.
