The first look at this year's new range of Skylanders toy and video game hybrid, Skylanders: Swap Force, shows how the 16-figure range can split in two, resulting in 256 character combinations.
That swapability means that pirate octopus Wash Buckler can become Stink Buckler or Wash Zone; uni-wheeled Magna Charge can be reformed as Freeze Charge or Magna Shift; fiery knight Blast Bomb ends up as Blast Blade or Blast Buckler.
Even evil bad guys might find themselves wearing a ballerina's tutu or waddling like a duck.
The video game and toy range is due to emerge in Fall 2013.
Meanwhile, Disney has responded to Activision's Skylanders success with the Disney Infinity line, which co-opts stars from Disney and Pixar films in a similar manner.
