After the standard Skylanders figures came Giants, and after Giants comes Swap Force, two-part figurines that can be matched up in novel combinations.
Sixteen new Skylanders toys will be produced under the Swap Force name, and their Fall 2013 release will be accompanied by 8 new LightCore edition Skylanders, as well as 16 Series 3 reissues.
For the Skylanders: Swap Force video game that the figures work with, there's a new studio on board; where Toys For Bob developed the last two games, this time it's Vicarious Visions, better known for helping out on the Guitar Hero series -- though it was apprenticed for the 2012 Wii U version of Skylanders: Giants.
Disney announced its response to the re-vamped Skylanders series in January with plans for Disney Infinity, which will also use a combination of real-life toys and video game make-believe, with film characters such as Jack Sparrow, Mr Incredible and Sulley confirmed to appear.
