Classic game of grub warfare Worms is ready to receive the attentions of Facebook users, having deployed a brand new edition.

It might be coming up to 20 years old, but the "Worms" series has proven to be bread and butter for British developer Team 17, having produced 20-odd variations on the theme since 1995.

Included in the Facebook version is a tutorial and practise firing range, medieval and Hawaiian environments, and matches versus friends or random opponents.

Like Civilization World and SimCity Social, this is another example of a classic gaming franchise making the transition to social networks -- and without Worms or its projectile-flinging forefather Scorched Earth, there may not have ever been an Angry Birds.
