A preview of work on the new Destiny franchise currently under wraps at ex-"Halo" studio Bungie appears to be on the slate as its design and art directors popped up on the speaking schedule for this year's Game Developers Conference, March 27-29.
The talk is to include concept art, case studies, and the design principles that Bungie used to create its "next great universe of games."
The first of four planned games that form the Destiny project is understood to be scheduled for release in fall 2013, targeting the Xbox 360 console and its successor, with PC and PlayStation versions to follow.
Concept art released in November 2012 suggested that Destiny, an action game set in space, incorporates both science fiction and steampunk influences, and Bungie's presence on the GDC schedule could indicate that a new batch of "Destiny" details are not far off.
Those initial details were revealed in May 2012 as part of a legal dispute between Destiny publisher Activision and the founders of "Call of Duty" studio Infinity Ward, who now have their own sci-fi oriented shooter in the works at Respawn Entertainment.
Recent Call of Duty games were publicly announced during late April or May prior to a November release.
By contrast, last year's Halo 4 (developed by 343 Industries rather than Bungie) was revealed much further in advance, at E3 in June of 2011 before its eventual November 2012 release -- but 343 remains quiet on whatever projects occupies it now, perhaps saving it for reveal alongside Microsoft's Xbox 360 successor.
