The original "Temple Run" was downloaded 75 million times in 2012, and now the new improved Temple Run 2 is available for iPhone and iPad, with an Android version hopeful for launch via the Amazon AppStore and Google Play next week.

The original "Temple Run" brought a growing "endless runner" genre to a mainstream audience, a genre popularized by the side-scrolling urgency of Canabalt, Jetpack Joyride and the '80s-themed "Robot Unicorn Attack."

It dumped a conventional sidescrolling perspective for an impressive 3D viewpoint and made the most of archaeological adventuring tropes, as players fled vengeful beasts deep within an Aztec complex.

Temple Run 2 includes rope slides, broken bridges, Indiana Jones-style cart rides, twisting courses, souped-up graphics and, perhaps most importantly, a bigger monkey.

Like its predecessor, Temple Run 2 is free, with developer Imangi Studios making money off the app through optional in-game gem and coin purchases that stretch from $0.99 to $19.99.
