'The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct' locked in for March

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) in 'The Walking Dead' TV series (AMC)

A video game adaptation of "The Walking Dead" is to arrive on March 26 in North America and March 29 in Europe, with Wii U now confirmed along with Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

"The Walking Dead" has already enjoyed one video game adaption courtesy of Telltale Games' award-winning five-part narrative adventure, but this is something different.

By contrast, "The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct" is based on the TV show rather than the graphic novels, with on-screen brothers Merle and Daryl Dixon at the forefront, and adopts the conventions of a first-person shooter -- a genre inhabited by military series "Call of Duty," zombie invasion game "Dead Island" and Pavlovian loot-fest "Borderlands" -- rather than the story-driven adventure game milieu inhabited by its forerunner.

Game developer Terminal Reality was responsible for "Kinect Star Wars" and, prior to that, "Ghostbusters: The Video Game."
