Sun Media voters have declared Scorpion the ultimate fighting game character by a slim margin over Capcom's legend who started the video game genre, Ryu.
Mortal Kombat’s own Lazarus-figure, Scorpion claimed the coveted spot of top fighter in Sun Media’s first ever Ultimate Fighting Game Battle Royale.
By no means was it an easy scrap against Street Fighter’s protagonist, Ryu, who beat Mai Shiranui, Shang Tsung, Chun Li and Sub Zero to get to the finals. Scorpion squeaked out 17-vote victory, 253-236.
Midway/Warner Brothers’ undead ninja beat out Tecmo Koei’s ninja Ryu Hayabusa, then Dead or Alive’s Ayane, then M. Bison of Street Fighter fame. In semifinals Scorpion beat his nemesis, Liu Kang.

Ryu downed Shang Tsung; Sub Zero beat out Terry Bogard; Jin Kazama fried Nightmare; Chun Li kicked off Siegfried Schtauffen; Nina Williams devastated Pai Chan; Liu Kang got by Mitsurugi; Scorpion hung Ayane out to dry and M. Bison crushed Ivy Valentine.
Round 3
Ryu froze out Sub Zero; Jin Kazama flamed out against Chun Li; Nina Williams was drop kicked by Liu Kang and Scorpion throttled M. Bison.
Round 4
Ryu outlasted Chun li and Scorpion finished Liu Kang.
