The quarter-finals are over. And what brouhahas there were.

We opened up the comment board to get your thoughts as we near the finals. Read the writing that was on the wall for the losers, and bask in the revelry for the winners below. Then be sure to vote in the semifinals below.

Ryu vs. Sub Zero

This was a fight to the finish. One that saw Street Fighter’s Ryu win by only four votes, 465-461.

Here were some of the comments in support of Capcom’s dragon punching protagonist:

“He can walk into a gun fight bringing only his fists and still kick ass.”

“Hadouken. End of story.”

“Sub-Zero may have the freeze, but it's all about experience: Ryu is a legit veteran of the fighting game circuit, and that experience will give him the win.”

For those who like their fights grisly:

“Sub Zero's freeze will stop Ryu in his tracks and then Sub Zero can shatter Ryu's world.”

“Sub Zero would just freeze and smash Ryu. Not to mention his infamous spine rip.”

“Ryu tends to announce his moves ... Sub-Zero would freeze him in mid-flight and turn him into tiny little Ryu-sicles.”

Chun Li vs. Jin Kazama

Chun Li certainly taught Namco Bandai’s anti-hero Jin Kazama how to be a proper gentleman, spanking him 613-313.

Here are some of the quips from the fans of the fighting game genre’s first femme fatale:

“She’s the fastest girl in the history of fighting games.”

“Chun Li rocks! It could be the pseudo-Princess Leia buns on the side of her head, or the tight outfit and the extreme kicks, but she would kick everyone else's butt!”

“(Chun Li’s) a more well-rounded fighter than Jin, and her speed FAR surpases his.”

And for Tekken nation, who felt their man was misunderstood:

“Jin Kazama. Devil JIN.”

“Jin can change into a demon angel. A DEMON ANGEL!!!!”

“Jin is the better character overall.”

Nina Williams vs. Liu Kang

A deadly assassin could not out-stealth or outwit Midway’s hero of the Outworld. Liu Kang doused Nina Williams’ fire 646-283.

For those of you who side with the Irish hitwoman, here’s what you had to say:

“Liu Kang is a wuss.”

“Who cares? This is the most attractive gamer I've ever seen.”

“An assassin vs. a failed destined warrior. No contest.”

As for Mortal Kombat’s greatest defender of the world:

“Too many tricks up his sleeve - Liu Kang could take down anyone.”

“Umm … Liu Kang. He saved the world numerous times winning the MK tournaments. She looks like she belongs in a porn spoof.”

“Liu Kang’s bicycle kick will put her out with a huge headache.”

Scorpion vs. M. Bison

For the last match of the quarter-finals, Midway’s demonic ninja Scorpion put the sting on Capcom’s Shadooloo villain, M. Bison, 683-245.

Here’s what team Gold and Black had to say about Scorpion:

“This is a tough one but Scorpion is simply the better all around fighter.”

“’GET OVER HERE’. ‘Nuff said.”

“He’s already dead. How can you defeat someone that’s already dead? Also he can shoot fire out of his head.”

And there were a few who supported Bison, Shadooloo employees, we suspect:

“Hmm … Scorpion is super bad ass in every which way, but I think bison just has too much power for an undead tournament fighter.”

“Bison’s speed and psycho power is far more effective than a dart.”

“Too close ... virtually a tie, but M. Bison is the villain that started it all.”
