The Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity + Sleep Wristband, powered by Bluetooth and therefore light enough on power to be worn all day while synched to a smartphone or tablet, is now on sale.

The device, unveiled at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, is on sale for $99.95 online and via major retailers, including Apples Stores. Fitbit products are sold internationally in Canada, Spain, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.

While the Flex isn't the company's first wristworn device, it is the first tracker from Fitbit to wirelessly sync with Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth 4.0. Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Note II, iPhone 4S and 5 users are all able to utilize the Bluetooth 4.0 synching.

In addition, the new gadget also tracks what Fitbit calls "active minutes," as well as steps taken, distance traveled and calories burned. The device, which can be worn as a clip or wristband, uses a row of colored LED lights to indicate when specific fitness goals are moving towards completion, such as when a user is 80 percent towards hitting a target of 10,000 steps taken in a single day.

As well as being subtle and inconspicuous, the LEDs serve a second purpose of communicating information without the user's having to view a smartphone or tablet screen, therefore preserving its battery life, a crucial feature for someone on the move.
