In the two years since Netflix launched in Canada, 21% of the English-speaking population has signed up, but most haven't stopped paying for traditional TV services, a new report says.

While more than one-fifth of anglophones watch Netflix, 84% of those also subscribe to traditional TV, whether it be satellite or cable, according to the Media Technology Monitor survey of some 12,000 Canadians.

Netflix users tend to watch less traditional TV than everyone else, soaking up 11.3 hours a week, compared to 14.9.

But when you factor in Netflix and other sources of online TV, they watch more hours than anyone else (22 per week, compared to 16).

"Netflix is for lovers of TV, not cord-cutters," the report says. "Netflix has become a part of their TV-viewing regime rather than a replacement."
