Hashtags can give Instagram users a glut of followers if used correctly, as well as helping other users find and discover content they are interested in. According to a report in tech blog Read Write, "#PhotoOfTheDay" is still going strong, despite having been around for a while, and Instagram users are a romantic lot, with "#Love" being the most popular hashtag.
According to the report, while some Instagram hashtags spike and drop in terms of popularity, others remain consistently in fashion.
The top ten Instagram hashtags, according to Read Write, using data from Webstagram (web.stagram.com) and based on the number of photos associated with these tags over the lifespan of Instagram, are as follows:

05. #tbt (Throw Back Thursday - used to share "retro" pictures)

Instagram, now owned by Facebook, suffered a blow last week after several users of the service, and of Facebook, were locked out of their accounts and were, according to a report in Tech Eye requested to email in photo identification in order to resolve the issue. The bizarre -- and potentially dangerous -- request led users to flood the web in an effort to determine if this was a real request or a phishing scheme.
