MONTREAL - Canada and France are jointly organizing a summit on the future of digital content companies to be held in Ottawa on Nov. 14-16.

The Embassy of France in Canada as well as Canada's Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) are inviting leaders from French and Canadian media organizations to discuss ways to support digital content industries.

The summit is funded by several private and public organizations such as Quebecor Media (owner of Sun Media), the Society of Composers and the Canada Media Fund.

"The multiplication of international distribution platforms like iTunes, Netflix or Spotify has blurred the line between local and international content," said J. Serge Sasseville, senior vice-president, corporate and institutional affairs of Quebecor Media.

"In this context, the challenge for countries such as France and Canada that are committed to maintaining a strong and distinctive cultural voice is both to develop the business models that foster the development of such voices and to put in place a regulatory environment that is flexible enough to allow local artists and companies to take advantage of these new platforms. As we look for answers, discussions such as these will hopefully allow us to learn from one another's successes and failures."

The three-day event will host various activities including panel discussions and keynote talks from prominent thinkers. Organizers will publish a report on the summit which will include the notes on the event's discussions, insights and recommendations.
